Tribe comments

Here's an interesting column that leads off with a look at whether the Indians can repeat last season's success, from Fox Sports.

Here's more of a straight preview from USA Today, and here's one from MLB.com.

What do I think? Well, I'm glad you asked. I think we're going to have some trouble holding off the Tigers, who have significantly improved their offense; but our pitching is going to be a lot better, especially if Fausto can repeat his performance from 2007. Sure, it's hard to predict what you're going to get from a young pitcher, but everybody thought from the beginning that Fausto was going to be great, and last year, he proved them right. I think we're looking at a budding superstar.

I'm amused how the one article by Fox Sports writer Randy Hill referred to Kenny Lofton as a, "veteran rental outfielder." Remember the 1997 season, when Lofton was traded to the Braves along with Alan Embree for David Justice and Marquis Grissom. You have to consider this a "win" for the Tribe, because Lofton played out the final year of his contract and then high-tailed it back to Cleveland for several more successful seasons... and Justice hit 96 HR in 3 1/2 seasons with the Tribe and helped them to the 1997 World Series. But anyway, back to Lofton -- he has been the epitome of a "rental outfielder," having played for 9 teams over the past 6 seasons!

Look for the Tribe to capture the Wild Card in 2008, what with that devastating offensive lineup the Detroit Tigers have assembled. Have you noticed what their projected everyday lineup will be, Steve? Ivan Rodriguez, future hall of famer and World Series MVP, is projected to bat NINTH!
