Twenty years ago today, Wayne Gretzky, in his last season with the Edmonton Oilers, got his 1,050th career assist, which put him past Gordie Howe to become the NHL's all-time leader in that department.
Since then, six other players have passed Howe, but with 1,963 assists, Gretzky retains a huge lead over second-place Ron Francis, who has 1,249.
